How may I obtain a hunting license?

Hunting Licenses may only be obtained for the next Hunting Season, starting from 15th May each year, until 31st May. It is mandatory to select the desired Hunting Season: either the one ending at 31st May (current season) or the one starting at 1st June (following season).

License Types
National – allows hunting across the entire Portuguese territory during one hunting season (always observing other applicable legal limitations).
RLicense for non-residents – allows hunting across the entire Portuguese territory during 30 days or one hunting season (always observing other applicable legal limitations). Both the national and regional licenses may be obtained at ATMs or at “ICNF”. Non-resident licenses may only be obtained at “ICNF”.

Which species may I hunt? And when?

The Hunting Calendar establishes the legal species, periods and processes which may be used during a hunting season. Fishing related questions

How may I obtain a fishing license?

Whether you are a professional or amateur fisherman, a valid fishing license is mandatory to fish in Portugal. If you fail to present a valid license upon demand by the authorities, fines ranging from 200€ to 2000€ may be applied. Different types of licenses (and costs) exist:

For Sea Waters
Boat Fishing – Fishing from a boat at sea
Underwater Fishing – Fishing underwater at sea
On foot Fishing – Fishing from the shore
For Fresh Waters
A general leisure license is applied, varying in geographical range:
National – valid for the entire Portuguese territory
Regional – valid for a specific region (North, Centre, South)
Municipal – valid within a specific Municipality

Fishing licenses may be obtained at ATMs, “ICNF”, “Direcção Geral de Recursos Naturais”, “Segurança e Serviços Marítimos” or at “Direcções Regionais de Agricultura e Pescas do Norte, Centro, Lisboa e Vale do Tejo, Alentejo and Algarve”. Municipal Licenses may not be obtained through ATMs. The ATM’s receipt will serve as your license. Keep it with you at all times.
